Virgin Pulses VP Transform Lowers the Risk of Developing Type 2 Diabetes Reveals New Research Data

Virgin Pulse is the world's leading digital-first health and wellness company, empowering organizations worldwide to activate populations, improve health outcomes, and reduce spending in an era of increasing cost and complexity
Fremont, CA: New data from a study of adults with prediabetes enrolled in VP Transform for Prediabetes were published in JMIR Diabetes shows that Virgin Pulse's VP Transform, the digital diabetes prevention program, is effective at lowering participants' risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
More than 37 million adults in the United States have diabetes, and another 96 million have prediabetes. Diabetes puts people at risk for serious health problems such as heart attacks, strokes, kidney failure, and other complications. Diabetes has a significant impact on businesses, costing employers billions of dollars in lost productivity and medical expenses each year. According to the CDC, the total medical cost for people with diabetes is $327 billion, including nearly $90 billion in indirect costs for employers such as increased absenteeism and decreased productivity.
"Diabetes is a critical issue for employers," said Chris Michalak, CEO of Virgin Pulse, "with lost work and wages affecting the people most important to their business – their employees – and their bottom line." "This study's findings show that type 2 diabetes can be prevented, delayed, managed, and even reversed by using digital therapeutic programmes like VP Transform, which empower people to take an active role in their health and future. This is good news for both individuals and businesses."
VP Transform is a CDC-recognized digital diabetes prevention program designed for people at risk of developing type 2 diabetes. The program includes a smartphone app linked to remote patient monitoring devices and tools for tracking behavior, health coaching, and online peer support. By combining simple, accessible technology with high-touch human connection, VP Transform focuses on assisting members in achieving moderate and sustainable weight loss and increased physical activity levels. Since the program's inception, over 27,000 people have participated in VP Transform.
The complete study's findings were published in the journal JMIR Diabetes as "A 12-Month Follow-Up of the Effects of a Digital Diabetes Prevention Program (VP Transform) on Weight and Physical Activity Among Adults With Prediabetes: Secondary Analysis."
